The Million Girls Moonshot provides several resources to ensure the use of diverse role models and mentors as a strategy to strengthen equity and inclusion across Afterschool Networks (MTAA) and in STEM programs (you). Below, you will find resources and guidance that will help you incorporate role models in action in your programs as well as ideas to increase family engagement!
Creating Connections with Role Models: The Power of Collaboration Toolkit: — This guide is designed to help recruit and prepare role models to inspire girls in science, technology, and engineering. Techbridge Girls outlines our “recipe for success” for role models and provides tips for training. While this guide has been designed with input from partners in the National Girls Collaborative Project, we encourage you to tailor our suggestions to meet the needs of your role models and the interests of your girls.
Blog: Mentor Challenge: What’s One Thing You Can Do to Make Lasting Impact? — This blog highlights the importance of mentors for youth who have potential who may be scared or nervous to ask for help. Author Linda Kekelis, an advisor for The Family Engagement Project for STEM Next Opportunity Fund, discusses how she thinks we should make mentoring about expanding real and lifelong opportunities.
